Description

A quick and savory Pepper Steak Recipe made with thinly sliced beef, colorful bell peppers, and a sweet soy glaze. Perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Marinade:

  • 1 lb. round steak, sirloin, or venison, sliced thin

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp cornstarch

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ¼ tsp ground ginger

  • Dash of salt and pepper

For the Glaze:

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1½ tbsp sugar

Additional:

  • 1 bell pepper, sliced

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 2 tbsp vegetable or sesame oil

  • Steamed rice, for serving

  • Sesame seeds or green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak:
In a bowl, whisk soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch, garlic powder, ginger, salt, and pepper. Add sliced steak, toss to coat, and marinate in the fridge for 15 minutes.

  2. Prepare the Glaze:
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, cornstarch, and sugar until smooth. Set aside.

  3. Cook the Vegetables:
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add bell pepper and onion. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until lightly charred. Transfer to a plate.

  4. Cook the Steak:
Add remaining oil to the skillet. Add marinated steak, spreading it in a single layer. Sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned.

  5. Combine and Thicken:
Return vegetables to the skillet. Pour in the glaze and toss to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  6. Serve:
Spoon over warm rice and garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of sesame oil or rice vinegar before serving.

Works well with chicken or tofu for a variation.

Double the glaze for saucier results.
